Taking Vitamins for Acne

Vitamins for Acne

If you have acne, there are probably many things you've done to get rid of it.  One of your options is to take vitamins to treat the acne.  You can take various types of vitamins for acne.

Some people opt to take supplements to their diet.  However, this can be dangerous if you don't take them as directed.  Therefore, it's best to use multivitamins, acne cleansers, or food as your source of these vitamins.

Vitamin A is one of the most commonly used vitamins for acne.  This is an antioxidant, so taking it would help prevent your pores from becoming clogged.  In addition to its benefits on the skin, vitamin A helps with your bones, gums, teeth, nails, and hair.

The best way to get this vitamin is to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables that are high in beta-carotene.  This will give your body the ability to produce its own vitamin A.  You can also find vitamin A in various creams and topical lotions.

One of the next vitamins for acne is vitamin E.  It's also a potent antioxidant which will help moisturize your skin.  People commonly use oil containing the vitamin to help lighten scars and treat acne problems.  You can find vitamin E mainly in sunflower seeds and almonds.  It's also found in spinach, olives, mustard greens, and blueberries.

If you have acne, you may benefit by taking various B-complex vitamins.  Vitamin B1, or thiamin, can be found in oranges, tangerines, garlic, and parsley.  Other food sources of this vitamin include kale, leek, cauliflower, and pineapples.

Riboflavin, or vitamin B2, is also one of the useful vitamins for acne.  You can find it in a variety of foods such as apricots, cherries, peaches, broccoli, and spinach.  Other good options include red peppers and watercress.

You should be aware that B-complex vitamins tend to break down easily in high heat.  Therefore, foods will lose much of their nutritional value by being cooked in high heat.  It's best to eat them raw, but if you have to cook them, you should do so lightly.

Another vitamin that you should consider taking if you have problems with acne is vitamin C.  Your skin will really benefit from this antioxidant which helps treat inflammation.  This vitamin will also help your skin produce more collagen.  It's found in foods like papayas, strawberries, oranges, and cantaloupe.

One of your final options is zinc.  It's useful for many different reasons.  Besides fighting inflammation, it will also help improve your immune system.  You can find it in low-fat roast beef, oysters, lamb, and dark chocolate.

These are some of the different vitamins for acne that you can take.  Remember that you shouldn't take them in supplement form, unless you follow the directions explicitly.  It can be hazardous to your health if you don't.  It's best to get these vitamins from different types of food in order to help get rid of acne.  You should really look to eat foods that contain vitamins A, C, and E since they're important antioxidants.
