Acne isn't a condition that just affects people's faces.  Other areas of the body can be affected like the back, arms, and neck.  Some people also have chest acne, although it's much less common on this area of the body.

Women are much more likely to have problems with chest acne than their male counterparts.  Acne that occurs in the chest of the body does so mainly because of overactive oil glands. The pores of the skin will become blocked if too much oil is produced. When this happens, bacteria will take advantage of the situation and start growing near the area.  Eventually, a skin infection will occur followed  by the formation of pimples.

Some women develop chest acne because of a hormone imbalance.  This is particularly a problem just before women start their menstrual cycle.  Women who use too much deodorant, lotion, or powders may also be at risk.  Other causes include improper washing of the skin and accumulation of dust.

The signs of chest acne are pretty easy to spot and the symptoms can be either mild, moderate, or severe.  Pimples will probably develop in the area.  You may also have comedones which are non-inflammatory lesions.  Inflammatory lesions like papules, pustules, and cysts may also become a problem.

Since chest acne is commonly caused by excess oil, treatment involves removing the oil from your skin.  One of the best ways to do this involves using medication that contains Benzoyl Peroxide.  Benzoyl Peroxide also has antibacterial properties, so it will help prevent bacterial infections.

If you're trying to treat chest acne, then you may want to combine your treatment methods with a lotion of some sort.  This will help keep your skin from becoming too dry since there won't be as much oil on the skin.  Look for lotion that has a non-comodegenic label on it.

As mentioned, it's possible for cases of chest acne to be quite severe.  If you develop a more severe case, then you may want to consult a dermatologist.  It's common to treat more severe cases with a prescription of Accutane.  You'll just need to be aware of the fact that you may experience severe side effects.

There are certain lifestyle changes that you can make to prevent problems with chest acne.  One of the most important things you should do is avoid wearing tight clothing as often.  It's also best that you wear breathable materials so perspiration isn't trapped on your skin.

Perspiration can cause major problems.  Therefore, after you have been sweating during exercise or some other activity, it's vital that you take a shower as soon as possible.  You may also want to avoid using too much lotions, powders, and deodorants because doing so will likely cause you problems with chest acne.

Whenever you buy laundry detergent, always check the label. You want to make sure to buy brands that are designed for sensitive skin or those that don't use any fragrances.  Laundry detergent can leave substances behind on the clothes that will cause skin problems when you wear them.
